Do you know if your employees are suitable for the work they do? Do they have existing health problems that could be made worse? Are these problems putting colleagues and work mates at risk?
If an employee is not suitable for the work they do, then there is the risk of future ill health and absence with all the additional costs these place on a business. And that’s without considering the knock on effects on insurance premiums and potential litigation.
Protecting your workforce is a way of protecting your business. Using experienced professionals to assess health issues associated with a particular job will provide you with a customised health screening programme. Allowing your business to tailor the service so you only get what you need, and only pay for what you use - making a more cost-effective investment for your business.
The Occupational Health Advisor will assess an individual and the work they will be doing. The assessment will include physical and mental capabilities, existing and past health conditions including medication and previous employment risks. The Advisor will then provide the employer with a report. The report will indicate one of the three outcomes
Outcome 1 - Employee is fit for work
Outcome 2 - Employee is unfit for work
Outcome 3 - Employee is fit with restrictions

Night worker Assessment
Under European Working Time Directives 1998 employees are entitled to a health assessment before they commence night work and at regular intervals thereafter. Night workers are defined as any employee who works more than three hours between the hours of 11pm and 6am. We recommend that night workers are screened at the pre-employment stage and then yearly. A Night worker assessment involves completion of a questionnaire and any concerns are referred for a face to face appointment with the Occupational Health Nurse.
Pregnant Woman and Breast Feeding Mothers - will require specific Workplace Risk Assessments under the New and Expectant Mothers at Work Regulations. Once an employer has been notified that an employee is an expectant mother, the employer has an obligation to ensure the woman is not exposed to any significant workplace risk. A full workplace risk assessment is undertaken to ensure there are no hazards in the workplace either physical, chemical or working conditions.
Display Screen Workstation Assessments - or VDU assessments are regulated under the Display Screen Equipment Regulations (1992, revised 2002). Drivers - Employees who drive long distances with work are at a greater risk of being involved in road accidents. Their ability to drive can also be affected by their health. The health assessment aims to detect early signs of problem including eye sight, high blood pressure and diabetes. Many of which can be undetected for some time before the employee has problems. WorkFuture’s driver health assessment includes a specially designed questionnaire, discussion on the health risks of night time driving, the effects of drugs and alcohol and the benefits of healthy lifestyle. Annual health assessments can be provided for all employees who are high mileage drivers
