Problem

An engineering company in Coalville required travel medicals for staff who were going to work in Hong Kong for periods of 6 weeks or more. The company wanted to ensure they were fit for both travel and work in a hot climate. WorkFuture were asked to assess the individual engineers to determine if they were fit to travel and to provide guidance on working in a hot climate.

Solution

The Occupational Health Nurse provided an on-site clinic to undertake the travel medicals. Workfuture also advised the company to ensure all their health surveillance was up to date as despite being indicated by their risk assessments, they did not have a programme of health surveillance in place. WorkFuture carried out both the travel medicals and health surveillance, which included hearing, breathing and skin examinations on the same day to minimise any disruption to production.

The company is now compliant with H&S regulations and can be reassured that the measures they have in place are protecting the health of their employees. The engineers are pleased that the company is looking after their health and value their employer as a good place to work.
